To the Manor born ...

Picture
I love weddings, I love the ambience and the music and it is from the first moment the guests arrive at the reception that the feel and vibe of the venue really comes into effect.
Picture
Every venue is different and I have been lucky enough to work in almost all in the area during my career.
One that really stands out for me is the lovely and picturesque Swynford Manor, situated in the beautiful village of Six Mile Bottom on the M11 between Newmarket and Cambridge
Picture
I love performing at Swynford Manor, which I do on a regular basis.  The gardens are beautiful, the dining room beautiful and the staff are fantastic, all this adds up to a great environment and a working formula for a brilliant wedding venue.
Picture
Choosing a wedding venue can be difficult, it has to fit all the criteria for the day as well as accommodate all kinds of special requirements and it takes a great team to ensure everything happens at the right time in the right way.
At Swynford, the team is run by Angela and Georgia who work closely with the engaged couple to co ordinate both the in-house requirements and the contracted wedding suppliers - such as yours truly - to ensure the day runs smoothly and to plan.
So if you are looking for a great wedding venue, let me point you towards this beautiful house, with its beautiful gardens, that my daughter loves to cartwheel around.

Magic is on the menu ...

For the past 10 years I have worked for some amazing restaurants including big chain restaurants like Frankie and Bennys, Loch Fynn and Beefeater and also small independent restaurants like Newmarket Indian Cuisine and Krackos.
Working around the tables in a restaurant is one of my favourite performing arena's.

Magic stands out from other entertainment styles and has a universal appeal.

Children, adults, and seniors are all enthralled by the mysteries and stories that are displayed.

Picture
It also engages people of every culture and it provides a wonderful shared experience for the whole family.
Picture
Restaurant managers, and their staff, who have experienced working with
Wayne Goodman Entertainments, would all advise they have seen many benefits that an in house magician brings to a restaurant. The below comments highlight just some of the benefits your restaurant could also experience.
Kevin:
“I've been utillsing the services of Wayne as a magician for over 10 years, with weekly or monthly residencies. We have many regular guests who love our food, but will often check which day Wayne is in so they can be sure of some extra entertainment while they dine. "

"From time to time we have new guests, Wayne turning up at their table is a welcome surprise, and before they know it their regular guests!"

Kelly:
“Having a magician in your restaurant is a real game changer, it gives you a tool to use with your guests that can make a normal dining experience an extraordinary dining experience”.

“It gives people something to take away and remember, and I can guarantee your guests will be talking about your restaurant to other people and it will make your restaurant be known for something special”.
Holly:
“I remember being on the till thinking "Oh no, where is table 70's food it's been ages", I looked over to see Wayne at the table performing his tricks and everyone was laughing really loud. I thought oh thank God they won't even notice their food was taking so long”.

“I remember being jealous of Wayne, when I went to the table they seemed so disappointed and just wanted more magic, saying that, I would hate to work a restaurant without him”.

“Wayne can make anyone laugh, even the grumpiest old man. A life saver when your table are still waiting for that pizza that got burnt”.

These comments speak for themselves and show the strength and value to the service we provide.

Thank you for the music ...

I am very lucky in my job to work with some of the best service providers in the industry.  When a client asks for a recommendation for someone, I know I am promoting the best of the best.
Picture
One of the most important parts of the wedding day is the evening entertainment.  I love being part of the daytime or early evening events, but once the lights dim it is down to the DJ or the band to make sure the rest of the wedding is a success.
If you look on my recommendations page you will see I only have one band on the whole page, this is because when I have an event or party, there is only one band I would want.
Picture
The Mighty MACCA are an amazing band.  I have known the MacDonald family for almost all my life and love working with them, mainly because what I think sets them apart from other bands is their passion for their music, and it really shows.
Picture
When you see MACCA at an event or wedding, the room is pumping, the crowd is up and singing and dancing along, the guys in the band have set a fever pitch that resonates around the room and everyone is in for the night of their lives.
Picture
Performing a wide range of music from the 60's to present day hits, Macca have the ability to engage with the whole audience, so you will find the dance floor filled with everyone, young and old.
Booking Macca could not be easier, click here to be taken to their contact page.

After speaking with Carl about your wedding, you will know you are in capable hands, with a massive selection of songs and styles, he will be able to advise and co-ordinate the perfect set list for you and your guests, including the all important first dance.

Picture
As a special offer I offer a 10% discount on my services if you book me alongside Macca.

Planning a wedding, then to the show you must go ...

Picture
Planning a wedding can be a daunting project, so much you have to arrange, and so many people to co-ordinate with, its enough to make your head spin.
Picture
Picture
From dresses to cakes, photographers and venues, the list goes on and on.

So how do you choose the right people?  How do you make sure the supplier is the right one for you and your special day?

Wedding fayres are a great way to meet the people behind the pictures, behind the websites and the phone calls.  A wedding is a very personal day, so make it personal and get to know the people you are trusting to make your day amazing.
Picture
A quick google search will reveal a list of wedding fayres in your area, or ask one of your suppliers if they can recommend a good one.
Every year I attend a number of fayre's, the Newmarket Wedding Show is held twice a year at the Millennium Grandstand, part of the Newmarket Race Course.

The next fayre will be on September 3rd 2017.
Picture
Another great fayre is held at Swynford Manor in Six Mile Bottom just outside Newmarket.

Venues who hold their own fayre's normally invite their prefered suppliers.

These suppliers will really know the venue and the team at the venue, meaning a seamless flow on the wedding day.
The next fayre at Swynford is on March 19th 2017.

Picture
When I attend a fayre I like to meet as many people as I can, and I love performing for people as they walk around the fayre.

So next time you are visiting a fayre please come and say hello and find out first hand what I do and how amazing it can be.
Contact me now to find out which fayres I will be attending or to arrange a no obligation consultation.

Wayne Goodman - The best choice for your wedding

28/2/2017

Planning a wedding can be stressful, making sure everything runs to plan, and putting your trust in the people to organise it can make it feel like you have a million tons on your shoulders.
The best way to relieve this stress, is to book the best people to make sure your day is the success you want it to be.
Booking Wayne Goodman is more than just booking a magician, more than just having someone come along and do a few tricks.
Picture
Lets look at what Wayne brings to your wedding day and why he is the number one choice when looking for a wedding magician.
Enhance the atmosphere by bringing people together.
Rather than performing for one or two people then moving on, Wayne will invite others to view and watch the performance, bringing them into the show and reducing the distance between guests who have no connection except they know the Bride and Groom.

This is the spark that starts the conversation, gets people talking and creates a great atmosphere around the room.

Picture
I get many thank you emails and letters all saying similar things,
"My cousin and his workmate did not know anyone else at the wedding and we were worried they would eat the food and then leave.  After you performed for them, they started talking and we were thrilled to see them chatting all evening and now they go to football at the weekends".

The Best Laid Plans.
Even the most organised event can run into delays, and this can have a knock on effect to the running of the day.

Extra time spent taking photos or a small delay in the food coming out can add massive amounts of stress for the Bride and Groom, but this does not need to be a worry or a panic, when you have Wayne at your wedding he will keep your guests busy and entertained.

The Table Plan Nightmare.
Most Brides and Grooms will tell you the worst job, the hardest thing to do is arranging the people for the seating plan.
Making sure everyone is in the perfect place can keep you up nights with worry.
Couples always worry that tables with people who do not know each other will not chat or talk, will leave early and will not have a good time.

The solution is simple, once you have all the family and close friends planned then you are left with the 2nd tier guests, just put them anywhere and let Wayne know which tables are the ones you are concerned about.
Wayne will make sure every guest is engaged in what he does and will leave the table spellbound and animated.  They will be talking about what they have just seen

Book Wayne now and watch your stress levels disappear.

Be wary of service quote websites

23/2/2017

It seems that nowadays there are lots of websites that offer to get you quotes and information to supply you with the best service provider for almost any industry.

It started with trust-a-trader and now we have many similar sites, the premise is easy, fill in a form and it will be sent to hundreds of people who will match the criteria of the form you filled in.  Now these sites might seem like a great idea, simple, easy to use and time saving but will it find you the best people?  Is it really the best option?
Will it find you the best people?
If you are looking for a service provider to assist you, then you need to make sure you are looking at the right people.  Any cowboy can sign up for a website and pay for the credits to apply for any job.  Just because a website says "award winning" or "highly recommended" does not mean it is true.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Is it really the best option?
I would suggest that if you are looking for an electrician or a plumber then a service list is a good thing, but make sure you ask for testimonials and references from past clients to ensure you are getting someone who is going to provide the proper level of professionalism and quality.

But if you are looking for someone for an event or wedding, party or function then I do not think these sites offer any kind of quality guarantee and you really are just tossing a dice, you may get lucky but most likely you will just get someone who undercuts or is willing to pay for the credits to respond.

If you book through an agency or directly with the entertainer then you have someone you can complain to if they do not provide the service they promise, but websites like this offer no chain of communication.
What is the answer?  How do I make sure I am looking at the right people?
The best way to find good people is to look for them yourself.
Here are some simple tips to get you speaking to the right people.
Look at as many options as you can.
Use Google, Type in "Magician needed in Newmarket" or "Disco for adults in Cambridge" and have a good look through the many options.  NO NOT just click on the first options but scroll a few pages too and when you have a few you like the look of, email them and ask for some information about what they provide, what quotes they have from previous clients, and do they have any public events you could see them at.
Picture
I have a whole page dedicated to quotes I have received and you can view it here.
I also have a page recommending other providers who will give you the best quality service in the industry, check them out here.
Picture
Ask the people you DO trust.
Facebook and Twitter and Social Media maybe the bane of the planet but they do keep you in touch with friends etc, so if you are looking for someone, ask your friends who they used.  There is nothing better than a recommendation.
A simple post on facebook asking for a disco, magician etc will get your friends tagging options to look at.  Once again DO NOT just click the first one, but check out all the options and look at what others say about them via review sites or quotes on their own site.  If you are not sure about the validity ask if they have any clients you could speak to.
Ask for a meeting.
The industry of entertainment is a very personal one, you are booking people to attend an event that not only means a lot to you but you also want to make something special for your family and guests.  Meet and speak to the people you are looking at.  When I meet my clients it is a two way street, they get to know me and who I am, and I get to meet and understand the needs of the people I will be working for.
Picture
If you need to find someone for your next event, then a little research can go a long way.

The man behind the lens

15/2/2017

I am so lucky in my job to work for some amazing people, I get to interact with them on the best day of their lives and I am honoured to be involved in their special day.  I also get to work alongside some of the most amazing people, some I see as part of the preparation process and at wedding fayres and some I see on the day as we are all a part of the wedding day machine.
Picture
One of the nicest people I have had the chance to work with and I am lucky enough now to call him a close friend is Juan Muino who is a photographer based in Cambridge.

Juan is more than just a nice bloke, from the first time I met him, I understood why brides and grooms like him, trust him and hand their whole wedding day over to his direction.
Everyone has a camera on their phone, so its a common misconception that anyone can take a picture, well that may be true, but not everyone can take a picture that captures a moment, that is why we have professional photographers.
I love it when I get a call from a client and they tell me they have booked Juan, I know a great wedding is now going to be an amazing wedding.
Juan and I are both part of a small group of wedding suppliers who meet every month for a social cuppa.  I can honestly say I have learnt so much from talking to him and I now have a better business because of him.
Picture
Picture
It is also a happy coincidence that Juan has a daughter the same age as my daughter, and they do adore each other.  I have to thank Juan for his help, his guidance and his friendship, and for having a little girl who makes my little girl laugh very loudly.
If you are planning a wedding, have just got engaged or for any reason you may  need a photographer then contact Juan via his website www.cambsweddingphotography.com

5 Things to think about if you want a magician at your wedding or event.

8/2/2017

Picture
If you are thinking about booking a magician for your wedding day or big function or event, here are 5 things you really need to think about, and ask before booking.
1 - Professional vs Amateur.
Does the magician have much or any experience working at professional events?

You only get one chance to make the day perfect so make sure you put your trust in the hands of someone who is not only capable but also experienced enough to be able to handle the pressure on the day.

Ask for references or quote and / or ask for a one-to-one consultation so that you can see first hand what and who you are booking.  It is also worth asking if the performer has any public events you could attend to view.
2 - Confirmation.

Does the performer send you a written confirmation of what you have agreed?
Picture
Getting written confirmation of the booking is so important.
Organising a wedding or event can be very stressful and you want to know you have everything organised down to the last detail.

A confirmation or contract should list all the details you have agreed on including the location of the event, the times required (including set up and pack down times if necessary), the dress code and of course the fee.

If you ask for a confirmation and you are told that "Yes I can do one if required" or "sure I will knock one up for you", you should ask yourself why it is not mandatory to send one.

If you do not have in writing the full agreement then any discrepancies arising at or after event will be difficult to clarify and resolve.  Always demand on a confirmation.

Picture
3 - Public Liability Insurance.

Does the performer have P.L.I and if not, why not?

No one wants to think about anything bad happening at a wedding or function but accidents can happen, a glass of wine knocked over or something knocked and broken can leave big repair or cleaning bills for someone to pay.

Most wedding venues require proof of this before allowing the performer to work at the venue.

Every professional performer should have P.L.I. of at least £5M, members of Equity automatically get covered for £10M.

Make sure when enquiring that the magician is covered.
4 - The right magician for the right event.

How do you know you have the right performer for your event?

Picture
There are many different styles in magic, just as there are many different types of event, and you want to make sure the two line up.

The easiest way to do this is by speaking to the magician and explaining your event, a professional should be able to tell you the best options and if they are the best choice.

Above all you want someone who will be entertaining and build a rapport with the guests at your special day.
Picture
5 - How much does it cost?

What is the cost and are their any hidden fee's?
Before a magician can quote a price we need to know a few pieces of information:

Date of event:  Is it a peak date or a special date?  Working on Christmas day is more expensive than a random Tuesday in April.
  • Location: The distance the performer has to travel will have to be equated into the fee.
  • Time required: Some magicians will quote an hourly rate whilst others will quote a one off fee.
  • Type of show:  A roaming close up magician on his own will not be the same fee as a large scale stage illusionist with assistants and transportation costs etc.
Once we have the variables we are able to quote you a price, but you need to ask if this is the total fee or are their any hidden costs.

You do not want to be quoted £XXX for a performer only to be told at a later date that there is another £200 in expenses etc.

Ask and get the full price and make sure it is on the confirmation.

I am very lucky in my profession to meet some of the most creative and original people, not just magicians but also among the suppliers of services and goods for my customers, clients and friends.

People who know me, will know that I only recommend the best of the best, when I put my name to a service provider you know they will deliver above and beyond the rest.

Graham and Rachel, owners of Regency Cakes are amazing cake makers.  They have just opened up a brick and mortar shop in Exning, just outside newmarket so you can go and have a chat and discuss any requirements directly with them.

Tonight I was booked for a wedding at the beautiful Riverside Hotel, in Mildenhall for a wedding.
I Love this venue, It has a special kind of charm and history that is complimented by a great team of people who work there.

Tonights wedding was beautiful, it was for an older couple and was for 50 guests all family and very close friends.  After getting married at the hotel they enjoyed a great reception with magic (from me) and some amazing canapes.

If you are looking for a great wedding venue with amazing gardens and plenty of space to accommodate any size wedding then have a look at the Riverside house and hotel.

Newmarket Wedding Fayre January 2017

23/1/2017

Picture
Yesterday I exhibited at the Newmarket Wedding Show at the Roley Mile.  The fayre runs twice a year and it is always a great day meeting great couples, newly engaged brides and grooms and those looking to add something special to their wedding day.

As well as meeting new people it is always a great day to catch up with some amazing wedding suppliers like J J Muino  who is in my opinion one of the best photographers in the wedding market and always  pleasure to work with.

It is always a pleasure as well as an honor to perform at a wedding, this is the most important day, not only for the bride and groom but also for the families and friends who have seen the couple come together and create a bond that will hopefully last a lifetime.

I would also like to congratulate Graham and Rachel at Regency Cakes on the opening of their new brick and mortar shop at 29 Oxford Street, Exning, CB8 7EW, If you are looking for a superb cake maker then pop in and say hello.

Chapter Twelve
The Act Assassin

The ultimate heckler and heckles.
The hit
You are on stage, the heckler has you in his sights he shouts something at you, you respond and suddenly “Bam” you have just lost.
It’s as simple and as quick as that.  The heckler has said something and before you even register what it is, it’s over.
You start to sweat and look around you for some sort of support.  The audience are jeering and now you have other people heckling you, although you can’t make out the words as your brain is in hyperdrive but coming up blank.

You start to panic and feel a bit sick, all your worst fears have happened at once.
The MC is looking at you for some sort of signal.  You have nowhere to turn and no one to help you.
The audience has turned on you and start to boo and hiss, someone starts a chant,
“OFF, OFF, OFF, OFF, OFF, OFF, OFF, OFF”.

Not nice and it leaves a terrible feeling in your stomach.
It has not happened to me but I saw it happen once, and I am so pleased it was not aimed at me.
A true “Act Assassin” is extremely RARE, but they do happen.

There are two types of “Act Assassin”.

The lucky hitter.
The professional assassin.

The lucky hitter

This will be someone who says the right thing at the right time, he will say something that just slays you.
He may not mean it to, but once done, it’s done.
The odds of this happening are very low though, you have many factors on your side like noise, attention etc.
The heckler has to be heard by all or most of the audience and also more importantly understood, however with the right timing and the right voice it can happen.
You have been warned.

The professional assassin

This guy is more likely.  He gets his kicks from doing this as often as he can, his heckles will be twice as strong, destructive and will inflict maximum damage.
He has worked on lines and manipulates situations, especially in venues where you may be regularly booked and he knows your act.
I have seen them destroy the confidence of the performer and kill the act completely.
You can stop it, right up until the moment that it happens, then it’s too late and there is nothing you can do.
When it does happen, it will be so fast that you won’t know what hit you, one minute you are doing your normal show, the next you’re getting laughed off stage, all your self-respect destroyed and confidence blown.
So how do you deal with this?
If it’s a true assassin heckle and they are calling for you to get off, then that may be your only course of action and you put it down to experience and hope that it won’t come back to haunt you with other bookers.

One of my favourite stories is kind of an act assassin even though the comedian brought it on himself, let me explain.

Kirk Douglas’s son Eric, half brother to legendary actor Michael, had been trying his hand at comedy.

He wasn’t that bad and had managed to get himself a 30 minute spot at a London comedy club.

The crowd that night were not a forgiving group however and he was dying a death, people were heckling and he was getting more and more frustrated until finally he snapped and shouted into the microphone,

“Dammit, you can not do this to me, don’t you people know who I am, I am Kirk Douglas’s son”.

At this point the main heckler in the front row jumped up and shouted,

“NO, I am Kirk Douglas’s son”,

referring to the iconic "I'm Spartacus" scene of the 1960 film starring Kirk Douglas.

Within seconds everyone was on their feet shouting the same thing.  I was told that people were still shouting it five minutes after he had left the stage.

You may notice a similarity in the two stories above, in both situations the attitude of the performer was ultimately the main reason for his downfall.
If the first performer had stuck to the rules, done the correct amount of time and got off when he was supposed to, the situation would never have arisen.
If Eric had maintained his composure, earned their respect rather than demanding it and not panicked, he may well have survived the situation with some dignity.

My New DVD is now available from Full52 Productions.

Have you ever wanted to memorise an entire deck cards? Well, thanks to Wayne Goodman’s ‘PRISM’ stack, you don’t have to! This super-simple system will allow you to know with absolute certainty, the exact card at ANY named position between 1 and 52 - INSTANTLY!

Picture
The power of knowing which card lies at any given numerical position is immense! This has been one of the hardcore card handling tools for decades and there was really only one way to have it at your disposal - by drilling it into your brain through forced memorisation.  Until now, that is...

Wayne Goodman presents his SUPER easy ‘PRISM’ stack that operates using the most basic and rudimentary system that will allow you to instantly calculate which card is at which position in the deck. Incredibly, with only 5 minutes introduction to the ‘PRISM’ stack, you’ll be accurately naming cards at given values without breaking a sweat and remember - there is ZERO memorisation involved!

As well as the stack and system being taught in full detail, you’ll also learn amazing effects to perform with your newly acquired super-skill! And, Wayne has stretched this system to its limits so, as well as AMAZING card effects, you’ll also learn a KILLER drawing duplication using the system! - THE ‘PRISM’ SYSTEM IS ‘PRE-SCHOOL EASY’! - THE DECK ABSOLUTELY APPEARS IN A COMPLETELY RANDOM ORDER! - A TOOL FOR LIFE WITH JUST A TEN MINUTE LEARNING TIME!
